While we can

San Donato in Poggio

Had breakfast at a small cafe at the end of the Pontevecchio bridge and then spent the morning looking around the shops and around Florence, there are quite a lot of works of art (statues) everywhere.

Fiat 500 rental from Florence

Then headed to pick up our rental car for the drive to San Donato. It was a brand new Fiat 500, very nice had a sunroof and everything. Easy to drive although I’m not used to driving a manual car or driving on the right hand side of the road for that matter. Didn’t bother with buying the GPS package, just plugged the trusty iPhone in and opened google maps, worked fine. Managed to get to our destination without causing grievous bodily harm.

San Donato was a pleasant surprise. Small hilltop town a lot smaller than Orvieto but a great base because of it’s proximity to other tourist areas like San Gimignano & Siena where we plan to visit tomorrow.

Our accomodation is fantastic, right in the main street of San Donato. We have a balcony with great views of the Tuscan countryside. Take a look at this video.

The main street is only maybe 5 metres wide and the restaurant next door brings all of the tables out into the street each night. The front door of our accomodation opens right into the middle of all the tables, we had a great meal before retiring for the night.

I can’t help myself, just a little typo – accomodation is accommodation – just think of 2 cots and 2 mattresses!
