We decided to attend the international convention today (Sunday), I didn’t want to shave my holiday beard off so I went incognito, disguised as a newly interested one. No-one asked if I wanted a study though.
It was about an hours trip by train. We really enjoyed meeting the brothers, Bro Lett gave the public address in English and there was an interpreter that translated into french.
Today we are heading off to Montmartre. We though we would get an early start and train it. We probably left a little too early as the place was deserted when we got there. Montmartre is the place that nurtured most of the great artists and writers living in France this past century. Montmartre is talked about by Parisians the way New Yorkers talk about the Village: It’s not what it used to be, It’s like Disneyland, the artists can’t afford to live here anymore, too many tourists. We didn’t find it that way, although we are tourists so I guess we are part of the problem.
Today we head to Paris, our train doesn’t leave until 1:30 pm so we have time to visit the markets which are open every Friday in Dijon. This was the busiest we have seen the place, not only were all the streets lined with vendors selling their wares but there seemed to be people everywhere. As we were sitting in a local cafe people watching, we noticed that most of the people there were over 65 dragging little shopping carts behind them so we fit right in. Obviously Friday was a big shopping day.
Had a lovely breakfast sent to our rooms this morning all be it a European breakfast, no bacon and eggs here. Still very enjoyable. Another great thing about this accomodation is the internet, it’s lightening fast. I have been running a speed test at each of the accomodations we have been staying at (hey, I’m a nerd, leave me alone) , 48mb/sec download and 5mb/sec upload, NBN speeds.
Today we head to Dijon France but our train is not leaving until 2:35 this afternoon so we decided to go to Harder Kulm. The journey from Interlaken to the Harder Kulm, Interlaken’s local mountain, takes ten minutes by cable car.
