We Have Arrived

Well, FINALLY we have made it to Rome. Our flight time to get here was a mammoth 40 hours which included an 18 hour stop over in Taipei. We flew China Airlines and I know that there are a few others that are thinking of flying with them to Europe so I thought that I would share with you our experience. I must admit I was a bit reticent about flying with them, a little unsure about their planes. I didn’t want to fly with an airline that required their passengers to pedal. The plane we flew on was a brand new Airbus A350-900, very nice. Big screens to watch movies and they had quite a collection, international power points to charge your devices and you know that your devices need to be charged up to 100% at all times when you are on holidays. The airline staff were very friendly and professional too.

Encore

Well we are busy making plans for our return to Italy. The anticipation builds. Our good friend Emmanuelle said it so well, and I quote “Finally you finished your holidays in Australia! Time to come back home!”. I must say that planning for this trip is actually quite easy as we know exactly what to expect.

The Land of the Long White Cloud

Well we have arrived in the land of Di’s birth. Didn’t think we were going to make it because of the weather on the day of departure. It was raining pretty heavily and visibility was down to a few metre’s so they diverted our incoming plane to Brisbane where it had to offload passengers, fuel up and return to the Gold Coast. We were delayed about 2 and a half hours. Didn’t really matter I guess because we originally had a 6 and a half hour wait in Auckland. That’s right our plane was originally supposed to arrive at 11:35pm and our flight to Nelson on the south island didn’t leave until 6:05am the following day. As it was we didn’t get in to Auckland until 2:30am.

Matera

It’s been great having 10 days with Colin Danielle and Max in Crotone but now it is time to head off for a bit of sight seeing in southern Italy for a week. First stop is about a 3 and a half hour drive to the town of Matera.

London Calling

Well it’s about timeI I updated you all, yes I know I’ve been slack when it comes to blogging. Well where to start? A few weeks back we went to London for the weekend to visit our family over there. It sounds weird saying that, but when you live right in the centre at Europe, you can travel to any of the famous cities like Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Prague or London just for the weekend. We were leaving from Lamazia airport at 11:30 am on Friday morning so we had plenty of time, it takes about one and a half hours and Marco was good enough to drive us there.

Tropea Day Trip

Last Friday was a public holiday in Italy so we decided to take the day off and do some sightseeing. A day trip across to Tropea was in order. It’s about a 2 and a half our trip from Crotone. The weather was kind to us, a top of around 17 degrees and sunny skies.

The Refugees

The refugees come by boat manly from continental Africa, it only takes about a day to get here. After they arrive their vessels are scuttled so that they can’t be used to bring any more refuges over. On arrival they are sent to “camps” to await processing of “papers” that will allow them to stay in Italy for different lengths of time, some 5 years some 2 years and some for even shorter periods depending on their circumstances.
